The African Serval
Stately and majestic, the Serval with its noble carriage, oversize ears, mile-long legs, and striking jet-black spots nestled in a lush butternut coat is sheer magic. Once you’ve seen just one Serval, you’ll know why the Savannah was created. No other hybrid can come close to fulfilling the drama and yearning for breathtaking, wild elegance!
The Hybrid Savannah breed has allowed the every-day person to capture a part of the wild and co-exist with it in their home.
This is Cleo our F2 Savannah at 9mo old she is an exceptionally big kitten at 18 lbs
The Savannah is a cross breed between Serval and a domestic feline, they are smaller and more manageable than a Serval, larger males can range from 15 to 20 pounds depending on generation, females from 9 to 17 pounds. However, because of their tall, lanky, attenuated body type, even the lightest weight Savannah appears much larger and heavier than it actually is.
This is Kenya, Cleo's mother she is an F1 at 13.5 lbs
I have found that the F-generation does not matter as to size. I have an F5 male who weights in at 20lbs.
The personality of the Savannah is Bright, inventive, intelligent, even ingenious, playful, charming, and intensely energetic, the Savannah is very dog-like and readily trainable, most love to play fetch, ride in cars, and relish outdoor walks on a leash. Actually a Savannah can be very much like a water-loving dog who’ll wrestle you for the garden hose, splash around in your morning shower, or wade through your bathwater. And their ability to leap straight up into the air is awesome. Savannahs expect to becoome a part of your family and long to be involved in every activity and aspect of your life, they are not your typical house pet.
Traits and Differences Between Each Generations
F1 Savannahs: If you are homebody that just enjoy spending tons of time with your animals an F1 Savannah is an option for you. F1 being the closest in line to the African Serval they are the ones that require the most attention. Be ready to share your bed, or rather be the one sharing the Savannahs bed. They love to be right there cooking in the kitchen, helping pull the chicken out of the fridge and filleting it for you. F1 Savannahs need constant love and attention to remain that loving companion for you and your family. These are not cats that you can crate all day, so if you or your family travels frequently, or are away from home for 8 hours, then we would not recommend an F1 Savannah for you.
F2 Savannahs: Much like your F1 Savannah your F2’s will also need a lot of time and attention to keep that loving and affectionate personality. The F2 Savannah will still be there cooking, shredding the chicken, unfolding your fresh and clean laundry, jumping in the shower when you open the door. F2 Savannahs are a little more laid back and some will even cuddle with you on the sofa. This is a perfect cat for anyone that wants to spend a lot of time at home with an have that exotic looking cat.
F3 Savannahs: Is the middle generations of Savannahs; this is where the more domestic traits come out, but still have all the social aspect of the Servals. F3 Savannahs enjoy all the same things as the higher generations Savannahs, playtime, shower time, cooking time, snuggle time, etc. They will come when you call their name and know when they are being a little too mischievous. F3’s still have that exotic look and personality. However they are very bonding and don't like to be leeft alone.
F4 Savannahs: F4 Savannahs are very personable and seem to want to know what is going on at all times. Still have the personality of helping you wit all your task and chores. They greet your guest with frequent head butts and love to beg for table scraps. F4 Savannahs still love to bonf to their humans, enjoy sleeping in your bed and waking you in the middle of the night for play time. They are very intelligent and extremely playful and seem to get into everything, Saftey door locks are always suggested. They do great with other animals and children, always making new freinds and love to play day or night. They will always want to be by your side and love to go on trips.
F5 and F6 Savannahs: Lower generation Savannahs are quiet honestly one of the best companions a person could have. They are very loyal to their humans and give a lot of love and affection to those around them. They still have the dog-like characteristics as the higher generations, hey love to fetch, play hide and seek, play with toys, and beg for table scraps. .
